Sick & Shut-Ins Visitation

The Sick & Shut-Ins Visitation program is a cornerstone of our community outreach efforts in St. Mary. Spearheaded by the Custos and supported by dedicated Justices of the Peace (JPs), this program ensures that our most vulnerable community members are not forgotten.

Purpose and Importance

The primary goal of the Sick & Shut-Ins Visitation program is to provide emotional support, companionship, and practical assistance to those who are ill or unable to leave their homes due to physical limitations. This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering a compassionate and inclusive community where every individual feels valued and cared for.

Activities and Services

During visits, the Custos and JPs engage in a variety of supportive activities, including:

  • Personal Interaction: Offering a listening ear, engaging in conversations, and providing much-needed social interaction to alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.
  • Emotional Support: Providing comfort and encouragement to help boost the morale of those who are struggling with illness or mobility issues.
  • Practical Assistance: Assisting with small tasks and errands, coordinating with healthcare providers, and ensuring that the individuals have access to necessary resources and services.
  • Spiritual Care: For those who desire it, offering spiritual support through prayer and sharing of inspirational messages.

Community Involvement

The program also encourages community members to participate by volunteering their time and resources. This collective effort helps to build stronger bonds within the community and ensures that the needs of our sick and shut-ins are met consistently.

Impact and Benefits

The Sick & Shut-Ins Visitation program has a profound impact on both the recipients and the volunteers. For the sick and shut-ins, these visits provide a lifeline of connection and support, enhancing their quality of life. For the Custos, JPs, and volunteers, it offers a rewarding opportunity to give back to the community and make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Through this initiative, we strive to uphold the values of empathy, service, and community solidarity, ensuring that no one in St. Mary is left behind.
